When it comes to Thanksgiving, the only people usually breaking a sweat are the ones playing football on television. But a day commonly associated with gluttony can be known as a healthy family tradition thanks to Team Move’s fifth annual Thanksmoving workout.

Team Move owner and personal trainer Damon Trevor launched Thanksmoving because he wanted to give people a chance to burn some calories before their big feasts. For him, it was a no-brainer.

“Workout hard, eat more and enjoy later.”

Team Move is known for its outdoor fitness classes, which started in 2005.

So when it came to its first Thanksmoving workout, the model was already in place – hold an outdoor workout at Ala Moana Beach Park on Thanksgiving morning that everyone is welcome to attend.

The benefits of an outdoor workout are simple. You can accommodate more people while still having ample room for movement. You have fresh air to breathe instead of that locker room stench. Plus, there’s an opportunity to get creative.

As Trevor says, With a lot of imagination, the options are endless. From tables and benches, to walls and sand; the workout gets very interesting.”

About 10 people attended the inaugural workout. Thanks to the core group inviting friends and family, Trevor has watched the group grow to more than 30 people, who range in age from 6 to 65.

Speaking of groups, Thanksmoving is an opportunity to see the benefits of working with other people.

Trevor explains, “You’re never alone in a group setting, which means that you have the support of the group to make it through any tough workout. Everyone becomes close after a period of time, they build that camaraderie, so it actually feels like you’re going to meet your friends instead of a bunch of strangers.”

The recipe for Thanksmoving hasn’t changed over the years.

Attendees can expect Team Move’s traditional 90-minute workout, which starts with 45 minutes of cardio, strength, and core exercises. The second half consists of yoga.

“We believe that this combination is the most diverse and effective workout that they will ever get,” Trevor said.

Team Move starts the workout at 7 a.m. so that families have enough time to prepare for their holiday festivities. But before running off to check on the turkey, you might want to hang out for the provided refreshments and prizes. Who knows, you might be walking away with a pie!
