We’re working on a big project! Join us on this new journey
Three years ago, we started a journey with you. Our mission was simple: Engage people around healthy activities happening in our communities.
We’ve been amazed at the response to our campaign. People jumped at the chance to talk about all manner of health topics, from exercising and eating right to mental health and environmental sustainability. We’ve met so many incredible people through Being808, people who are inspiring their friends, their neighbors and their communities to take healthy steps every day.
Recently, we got the opportunity to take our engagement campaign in a new direction. We’re working on an ambitious project that we think will help us have a greater impact, and engage even more of our Hawaii friends and neighbors.
This means we’ll no longer be publishing stories at Being808 so that we can put our all into this new project. (Our website, however, will remain up for now.)
We’re looking forward to taking our work to the next level, to extending our reach and, in doing so, broadening the depth and breadth of the conversations we can have with all of you.
We know our work won’t end with this final post. Because it was never about us. It was about you – what you’re doing to help build a healthier Hawaii.
We’ll be sharing information on social media soon about what we’re working on. We can’t give you many details now, but we can tell you that we’ll still be blogging (at a new home) and spotlighting healthy people, healthy businesses and healthy communities in the islands.
It’s always hard to close out a project you’ve invested a lot in.
For us, Being808 wasn’t just a place for locally-grown and locally-driven conversations about health. It became our own catalyst to health; our own unique contribution. It became a place for people to share their unique perspective – their own voice. It was a place where we invited you to laugh, learn, share and, occasionally, cry, and where we laughed, learned, shared and cried right along with you.
Thanks to you, our grassroots campaign reached tens of thousands of people across the state; it paved the way for the creation of new community groups around gardening and healthy eating, and helped us spotlight health heroes who are changing our state with their positive actions.
Now we’re looking forward to taking our work to the next level, to extending our reach and, in doing so, broadening the depth and breadth of the conversations we can have with all of you.
While we’re not sure what the future holds, we do know this much: We couldn’t have gotten this far without you. We hope you join us for our next chapter.
